Billing and Payment

  1. Patient Registration

In order to facilitate the billing process and ensure accurate billing, you will be asked to verify your address, phone number, date of birth, and insurance information. Please be sure to bring your insurance card to each visit and any necessary referrals from your primary care physician.

PLEASE NOTE: It is important that you, prior to your visit, verify with your insurance company that Southern Shores Eye Center, P.A. and your treating doctor is an in-network provider under your specific plan. We may be contracted with your insurance company, but your specific plan may not be included. It is your responsibility to know which providers are in your network, which services are covered by your insurance plan, and to bring any necessary referrals from your primary care physician.

  2. Billing to Insurance Company

For patients with in-network insurance coverage, our billing department will submit a claim on your behalf.

  3. Payment by your Insurance Company

Your insurance company will provide you with an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) that summarizes the charges for the services rendered, payments sent to Southern Shores Eye Center, P.A., and any remaining balance for which you are responsible. After we receive the insurance payment, we will send you a statement for any remaining balance. This balance must be paid within thirty (30) days of the statement date; otherwise, an additional late fee may be incurred.

PLEASE NOTE: Refraction is usually NOT covered by insurance. The patient will be responsible for paying for the service on the date of the examination.

  4. Patient Payment Responsibilities

The patient is responsible for insurance co-pays, co-insurance, and “non-covered” services (i.e. refraction) on the day of the appointment. Patients without insurance (“Self-pay” patients) are responsible for payment for services on the day of the appointment.
